こうしたテーマを私たち財団では、味の素グループからの出向者を中心に12名のメンバーで推進しています。
それぞれのメンバーは一部を除き食や栄養の専門家でもなければ、途上国支援や防災の専門家ではありません。
しかし、ある者は日本で学んだマーケティングスキルを、ある者はアジアや中東等の海外赴任で培った伝統市場での販売ノウハウを、或いはIT部門で培ったデジタルスキル、研究所で鍛えた科学的思考、人事部門や労働組合で学んだ福利厚生や人に寄り添うことの大切さ等、これまでの知識や経験をベースに、まさに社会課題の現場と向き合って活動しています。栄養士も、被災された方々からで学んだことを活かし、被災地で誰しもが活用できるこれまでにないツールを生み出しています。そして、各々のテーマに通り組んでいるうちに、各分野から頼られる存在に成長している者もいます。

更にもう一つ私たちの活動を支えているのは、多くの著名な食と栄養、新興国支援、被災地復興支援の先生や専門家の方々、そして実際にNGOで活躍されている方々から様々なアドバイスやサポートを頂いていることです。私たちは、そうした先生方や専門家の方々から有用なノウハウを学ばせて頂くだけでなく、時には私たちのメンバーと共に海外も含めた現場に同行し、現地と一体となって社会課題解決に取り組んで頂いています。こうした先生方や専門家の方々のお陰で、新興国や防災のテーマも確実に改善に向け進んでいると実感しています。

日本は、第二次世界大戦後の食糧難の時代に、政府と栄養の専門家の強力なリーダーシップにより敗戦後わずか５年で完全学校給食の制度を開始し、その後の栄養改善法の制定により、国民の栄養知識が向上し、国民の栄養状態が飛躍的に改善されました。そしてそのことが日本人の長寿につながったことは言うまでもありません。私たちは、我が国のそうした食と栄養の歴史の中で培われたノウハウを学び続けながら、まだまだ食と栄養に課題のある海外の国々や、我が国においても課題の多い防災に関する食と栄養について取り組んでまいります。そして、それらの活動を通じて、私たちは明るい未来の創造に少しでもお役立ちできるのではと確信致しております。

At the Foundation, we promote these themes with a team of 12, most of whom are seconded from the Ajinomoto group. Each member, with a few exceptions, is not an expert in food and nutrition, assistance to developing countries, or disaster management.

However, some have marketing skills learned in Japan, some have sales experience acquired through overseas assignments in Asia and the Middle East, some have digital skills gained in the IT department, some have an inquisitive mind for unknown fields and on-site improvement activities developed in the research and production departments, and some have welfare expertise and understand the importance of being close to people learned from experience with the human resources department and labor union.

Another thing that supports our activities is the valuable advice and support we receive from many well-known professors and experts in the fields of food and nutrition, emerging economies, and the reconstruction of disaster-stricken areas, as well as from active members of NGOs. Not only do we gain useful know-how from them, but sometimes they accompany our members to the field, even overseas, and work together with the local community to solve social issues. Thanks to them, we feel that we are making steady progress toward improving the conditions in developing countries and disaster prevention.

In Japan, during the period of food shortage after World War II, the government, along with nutritional experts initiated a system of complete school lunches only five years after the end of the war. And the subsequent enactment of the Nutrition Improvement Law improved the nutritional knowledge of the people and dramatically enhanced the nutritional status of the nation. Needless to say, this led to an increase in the health and lifespans of the Japanese people.
As we continue to draw on the knowledge gained through the history of food and nutrition in our country, we are committed to working on disaster prevention, food and nutrition, both in Japan and overseas, which is still a challenge in Japan as well as overseas where people are still facing major issues in food and nutrition.
Through these activities, we are confident that we can contribute to the creation of a brighter future.
